Are You Concerned About the Impacts of Gambling In NSW?
The Gambling Impact Society (NSW) is an ACNC registered Health Promotion Charity providing community education, information, professional training, support and advocacy on the issues of problem gambling and gambling harms in the community.
We do this via a range of educational projects/programs and through communication platforms including: hard copy resources, website, social media, direct online distribution and (in the past) a hard copy newsletter. Refer to our website at www.gisnsw.org.au
The GIS Management Committee meets in Nowra but the organisation has a statewide role in the community as an evolving peak body. We provide services in various locations throughout the state of NSW and beyond.
We will be hosting our 2018 Annual General Meeting on November 22nd:
So why not come along and hear about our work this year and consider getting involved.
The GIS AGM will be held on Thursday 22nd November 5.30pm – 7.00pm at the Nowra Neighbourhood Centre, 41 Worrigee St, Nowra. Light refreshments will be served.
We Are Looking for New Management Committee Members:
The voluntary management committee provides governance of the orgnnisation and management support to the Executive Officer, GIS Volunteers and contracted project staff.
Due to the retirement of a number of committee members the management group is now looking for some additional volunteers to fill a number of vacancies and will be taking nominations at the AGM.
An interest in social justice, public health and gambling harm prevention and gambling reform is desirable. Experience in community service management is not essential but would be valuable for these positions.
Time Commitment: The committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Nowra Neighbourhood Centre 6.00 pm – 8.00pm (people at distance may consider attending some meetings by Skype). In addition to these hours approximately 4-5 hours a month may be spent on other committee related activities such as documentation review, policy development, research etc.
Other Ways to Get Involved – become a GIS Volunteer:
In addition to management committee members, we are currently looking for people who may have time to help us with various aspects of our work including: writing articles for our news bulletins, promoting our services and fundraising.
Please contact our Executive Officer Kate Roberts at info@gisnsw.org.au if you would like to get involved.
