Consumer Voices is a Gambling Impact Society (NSW) education program to raise awareness of the issue of problem gambling in the community. Peer spokespeople have been trained to provide community education from the perspective of people who have been directly negatively impacted by problem gambling. These are people who have a meaningful story to tell. From May 2012 – July 2014 the project delivered 120 community education sessions to a range of community, health, welfare and service groups in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven , ACT and Sydney regions. Over 1,844 people from various backgrounds including, members of the general public, gambling venue staff, and community care providers attended a session.
